I’ve been working to figure out color this year. I’ve tried a lot of different media, and I think I’ve finally found the one for me. I sketch in pencil, outline in regular colored pencil, then color in and paint with watercolor pencil. I find it works well even in a regular sketchbook (so, no need to soak and stretch watercolor paper!). I’m kinda liking it.

As to these pictures themselves, well, you need to try out your methods on something, right? I find that when working on a technique, it’s useful to practice from films because you can pause the frame in a moment of natural action. Also, next time your family members are expressing some kind of deeply felt emotion, you just try to get them to hold that position for a moment while you take a reference photo. Erm yeah…right. 🙂 Films let you practice on natural (or near-natural) expressions and body language.

These particular people are Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo, who were in the wonderful Korean drama W–Two Worlds. It’s about a webcomic artist whose main character takes on a life of his own. So if you like illustration, please try it out!
